DESSO AirMaster® with DESSO EcoBase® a finalist in the 2014 Australian BPN Sustainability Awards

DESSO AirMaster® with DESSO EcoBase®Backing has been chosen as a finalist for the BPN Sustainability Awards, Australia's strongest independent award program recognising ecologically sustainable building and design.

DESSO is one of 10 finalists in the running for the Innovation of the Year Award, which seeks to recognise the best in new building products and services.

Desso was selected as a finalist for its innovative new product, DESSO AirMaster® with DESSO EcoBase®backing, an innovative structured loop pile carpet tile that takes sustainable design and functionality to the next level. Non-toxic, PVC free, designed for disassembly and manufactured using circular economy and Cradle to Cradle® strategies, it is also capable of capturing and retaining fine dust in the air four times more effectively than standard carpet solutions1)  and eight times more effectively than hard flooring2). This product represents an advanced sustainable business model for economic growth that generates wealth within the means of the planet's resources and where innovation leads to products that contribute to people's health and wellbeing.

The DESSO AirMaster® contains up to 100% ECONYL®regenerated nylon including post- consumer yarn from Desso's refinity® plant and is available with Cradle to Cradle® Silver Certified DESSO EcoBase® backing. The health benefits of this product resulted in it becoming one of Desso's top sellers with big markets in Europe and Latin America. In 2012, Desso continued to win recognition for its innovation strategy of Creativity, Functionality and Cradle to Cradle® thinking. Desso won the Guardian Sustainable Business Award for Waste and Recycling for its implementation of Cradle to Cradle® design in its business strategy. They also picked up for the second year running a high commendation for the UK- based Green Business Award ( Waste and resources category, supported by WRAP) introduced by ENDS ( Environmental Data Services), a specialist information service for environment professionals. Furthermore Desso received a "red dot product design" award for its " Visions of " carpet line. This is a quality seal for aesthetic forms and lasting trends, handed out each year during one of the most renowned design contests in the world.

Now in their eighth year, the BPN Sustainability Awards are a leading benchmark of the Australian building industry's best-practice.

An overall winner will be awarded the Best of the Best prize, which will be announced at a gala awards presentation event to be held in Sydney on 23 October 2014. The winners will be chosen by a panel of distinguished experts in sustainable architecture, building design and Australia's green building industry.
